Meet Mr. Mitchell
Hello! My name is Guy Mitchell and I am thrilled to be new Theatre Arts Director for Del City High School! This is going to be a busy and exciting year for the program. Here's a little bit about me. I went to Deer Creek High School which is where I first fell in love with acting. I then graduated from the University of Central Oklahoma with a BFA.Ed in Theatre/Communication Education in the Fall of 2014. While there I was very active the department and performed in several of their productions. After graduating, I moved up to Enid, OK to teacher Speech/Drama at Waller Middle School, I will always value my time there and the lessons I learn, but my passion is for High School Theatre. From there, I went to teach Speech and Debate at Yukon High School, but again I was not fulfilling my want to teach Theatre. So, I was able to get an interview here at Del City and here I am!
I firmly believe that there is no such thing as, "high school theater" to me that is a degrading phrase that people use to excuse a production that has not lived up to its potential. Del City HS Theatre will not do "high school theater" we will be putting on legitimate Theatre. My goal is to bring DCHS to the forefront of Theatre in the public school arena. I believe in setting the bar very high and helping students reach that standard. If we set our standards high and strive to actively meet them then we will not have to worry about whether or not we are doing our job. I believe that we are going to do great things this year! "Theatre is a place where every race, creed, sexuality, and gender is equal, is embraced, and is loved." - James Corden.
